North Square – #250

Posted in Boston, Night, Slideshow

For this photo, I’m standing near Paul Revere’s house. If you are familiar with the North End of Boston, you will recognize this restaurant!  Notice the red lights from the car that passed, but there was not enough light for the car itself to register on the film. Most of the people didn’t show up– only the valet, who was leaning against the building for the entire exposure.  Available any size.

Boston Fireworks – #290

Posted in Boston, Night

This is a long exposure of the Fourth of July fireworks display. I have tons of fireworks pictures– some wide angles like this; some closer in where you see one or two bursts; some taken with the telephoto so close up they are abstracted. Those look like flowers sometimes, or star or meteor streaks. Alot of fun, takes alot of experimenting with exposure. Available 8×10 umatted, or matted 11×14.

Old North Church – #241

The Old North Church, North End, Boston Three cool things about this photo: the purple sky is real– it is just after sunset and still snowing, and the sky was this beautiful purple color. It was around 5 pm on a weekday, so there were alot of people walking down The Prado (the Mall). You don’t see them because it is a long exposure, and anything moving in a long exposure doesn’t show up on the film. And– the light is on!  The light in the steeple isn’t often on.  I know the people who work at the church, because I sell my photos in their gift shop and I have...

Rome Colosseum

The Colosseum, Rome I didn’t bring a tripod to Italy, so I was really pleased with how this one came out.  I found a wall that seemed about the right height for what I wanted, and put the camera down. Couldn’t look through the viewfinder, so I guessed at the composition. I love how the twilight sky came out, that you can see the lights inside the coliseum, and the horses out front. This is one of those times when experience on timing exposures, so that it becomes second-nature, becomes really important. Available 11×14.

BPG-Bridge during snowstorm

Posted in Boston, Color, Night, Public Garden, Slideshow

This photograph was taken very late at night in a snowstorm.  It was a during one of the playoff games in 2005, the Patriots vs. Steelers, before the Patriots won the Superbowl. The snow was so gorgeous, I really wanted to go shooting, so my husband missed an hour of the game so he could go for a walk with me. I took some beautiful pictures of the Comm. Ave. Mall and the Public Garden (while he patiently froze).  The cool color of the sky is real– it is because it is actually snowing, and it is the mix of city lights bouncing back down. The glow in the sky in the distance was a...
